These are the proposed dog park rules, and are subject to change.
 

Off-Leash Dog Area Rules

This park has been established as a public/private partnership and is funded through private donation. Please keep this park viable by ensuring that your dog is ready to socialize with other dogs and their owners BEFORE BRINGING YOUR DOG TO THIS PARK. It is the dog handler’s responsibility to evaluate their own dog’s social skills and assume full liability while visiting this park. Please contact the Lynchburg Humane Society or your local veterinarian for socialization and/or obedience classes as necessary.

 

  1. Dogs must display current license and rabies vaccination tags. Dogs with known    contagious diseases not allowed.
  2. Dogs must be over 4 months old.

  3. Dog handlers must leash their dogs when entering and exiting the  off-leash dog area.

  4. Dog handlers must be in control and in visual contact with their dogs at all times.

  5. No female dogs in heat.

  6. Handlers must be 16 years of age or older.

  7. Children age 7 and under are not allowed in the off-leash dog area. Parents must be in control of their children at all times.

  8. No more than 3 dogs per handler.

  9. Dog handlers MUST “SCOOP THE POOP” and dispose of it in a proper manner.

  10. Handlers must have possession of the dog leash at all times.

  11. No aggressive dog behavior. Handlers shall remove dogs at the first sign of aggression. Handlers are legally responsible for their dog(s) and any injury caused by them.

  12. All bites (dog-to-dog or dog-to-human) must be reported to the Lynchburg City Police Department at 847-1602 or 911. 

  13. The off-leash dog area is open from dawn to dusk.

  14. Professional dog trainers may not use the off-leash dog area for the conduct of their business, unless sponsored by Department of Parks & Recreation.

  15.  Handlers shall not allow their dogs to bark on a continuous or frequent basis.

  16.  Handlers, prior to leaving the off-leash dog area, shall fill any holes dug by their dogs.

  17. Violations of the leash law, dog waste law, and/or dog license law may result in fines, loss of park privileges, and/or other punitive measures.

  18. No smoking or eating by dog handlers. No glass containers allowed in off-leash dog area. Training treats are allowed.

  19.  No animals other than dogs are permitted.

  20. Users of off-leash dog area do so at their own risk. The City of Lynchburg, Virginia, its officers/officials, employees, agents, and volunteers (the City) shall not be liable for any injury or damage caused by any dog in the off-leash dog area.
