About Us

Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park, Inc. is a Virginia non-stock corporation, and an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization. We are a group of city residents working with the City of Lynchburg Department of Parks & Recreation to build and maintain an off-leash, fenced dog park in Lynchburg.

The dog park will be located at Blackwater Creek Athletic Area in mid-town Lynchburg. The dog park will be built in three phases with each phase having more features and amenities. We will be raising the initial $35K needed for Phase I to open the dog park through donations and fundraisers. There will be opportunities for individual and corporate donations. No city tax payer dollars will be used for the construction of the park.
Company history

Over the last several years, the Lynchburg Humane Society and the City of Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Department each fielded numerous requests for an off-leash dog park in Lynchburg.

In April 2007, an eight member committee comprised of four municipal and four citizen

representatives formed the Off-Leash Dog Park Steering Committee to research the feasibility of establishing an off-leash dog park in Lynchburg. In October 2008 they

completed the Dog Park Feasibility Study and submitted it to Lynchburg City Council where the project was subsequently approved.

In June 2009 the Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park, Inc. was incorporated in Virginia.

On February 11, 2010 we received IRS approval as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

Mission

To establish and maintain an off-leash dog park open to the general public where dog owners may exercise their dogs and benefit from educational programs promoting healthy dog behavior.
